Hunting in MiG alley, miles from home
Well into Manchuria, my fuel’s running low
Behind enemy lines, turn back to the sea
Look up above, four MiGs are what I see
CLOSE IT UP I scream, don’t lose your nerves
They’re well out of range, but firing anyway it works
My wingman he breaks, without warning me
This I don’t need now, nose down at four Gs

With man machine as one
My saber and the sky
It’s do or be dead up here
NO GUTS, NO GLORY

I pull in behind them, keep them in between
All my guns blazing, I hit number two
Roll it out and climb I say, you’ll be alright
Two MiGs on my six, they won’t be there for long
GOBBLING FUEL like mad, I keep the MiGs outside
Roll around over top, reverse “S” and I’m behind them
They break for the Yalu, but I’ve no fuel to chase
They will just be, the two that got away

Climbing to 9,000 feet, it’s going to be close
To my left another MiG, but he doesn’t turn to engage
I look at my fuel, then at the MiG in front of me
What the hell why not, I’m Ace “Boots” Blesse
ANOTHER MIG gone, but I’m not safe quite yet
My fuel’s still low, and I’m miles from Pyongyang
Head winds make it harder, as I head for Pen Yang Do
Encouragement over the radio, I make it over water and eject
